Late Mr. Gokalchand Gupta - (Founder)

Late Mr. Gokalchand Gupta was a visionary and a true industry pioneer who laid the foundation for Gujarat’s first ship recycling yard in the 1960s. At a time when recycling was a new and unfamiliar concept, he took the bold step of starting GGSBY Industries Pvt Ltd, introducing sustainable practices to the industry. His forward-thinking vision set the benchmark for responsible ship recycling in India, creating a legacy that continues to guide the industry today.

Mr. Vishnu Kumar Gupta - (Director)

Mr. Vishnu Kumar Gupta is an industry maker and a respected leader who has been instrumental in driving the growth of GGSBY Industries. Since the 1980s, he has expanded the business with a dedicated plot in Alang, strengthening the company’s position as a market leader. As the longest-serving President of the Ship Recycling Industries Association (India), his 15-year tenure showcases his unwavering commitment to promoting sustainable practices and leaving a lasting impact on the ship recycling sector.

PIONEER HISTORY

Ghasiram Gokalchand Ship Breaking Yard (GGSBY) has deep roots in the Indian ship recycling industry, with its founders beginning ship recycling operations in Mumbai in the 1960s. Following the discovery and development of Alang as a prime location for ship recycling, the company relocated in the 1980s and became the first to commence ship recycling operations there. This pioneering move established GGSBY as a leader in the field and set the foundation for large-scale recycling projects in Alang, solidifying its reputation as an industry trailblazer.

Ghasiram Gokalchand Ship Breaking Yard (GGSBY) holds a prominent place in the history of the Indian ship recycling industry, having recycled the first-ever Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) in India, the MT Red Sea Pioneer, in 1993. This monumental achievement not only set a new standard for ship recycling in the country but also established GGSBY as a leader in handling large-scale vessels. The successful recycling of the MT Red Sea Pioneer marked a pivotal moment in India's maritime industry, showcasing India's capability and expertise in recycling vessels of this magnitude.
